BOTOX treatment areas

Eyebrows

As you age, it’s not only the lines on your forehead that become more prominent. Your eyebrows will also begin to sag and become furrowed. The combination of these signs of aging can give you a scowling appearance. A Botox eyebrow lift is the best way to address the issue without surgery. Lines on your forehead and sagging eyebrows will be removed. Hooding of the upper eyelid can also be reduced with Botox eyebrow injection.

The effect of a Botox brow lift can be obvious within three to five days after Botox injection, with the full effects more noticeable after 14 days. The effects can last for three to four months.

Masseters (TMJ relief)

The masseter is the main muscle for chewing food. Masseter Botox injections relaxes the jawline, relieving the tension and pressure. This jaw slimming Botox injection can also treat teeth-grinding, especially at night.

Masseter muscle Botox, also called jaw Botox injected into the masseter muscle can soften a square jaw, creating a more feminine silhouette in the lower face.. It usually takes 2 weeks for the full effect to kick in and typically lasts for about 3 months.

Marionette lines

Aging brings along marionette lines particularly in the skin around the mouth. These are the vertical lines that run between your mouth and chin that tend to develop by your 40s. The presence of marionette lines also causes sagging in the lower part of your face.

The cause of marionette lines has not been clearly established but genetics is thought to play a primary role. Botox injection relaxes your facial muscles causing your skin to become smoother and reducing the appearance of wrinkles on the area. To maintain the effect, Botox marionette lines treatment needs to be repeated every 3-4 months. The best results can be achieved when Botox injections are given when you’ve just started to develop marionette lines. Continue reading for more common areas for Botox injections.

Botox Lip Flip

Among the common areas for Botox is the lips. A lip flip, also called a lip injection, will give you a fuller lip after one quick Botox injection into the upper lip. As the muscles above your lip relax, it causes the upper lip to flip slightly upward making your lip appear larger and more prominent. However, the size of your lip doesn’t actually increase. A Botox lip flip will work best if much of your gums are exposed when you smile. After a lip Botox injection, the upper lip won’t elevate as much thus less gum is shown.

Botox for Jawline

Jawline reconstruction or masseter muscle reduction can help reduce or define your jawline with a variety of surgical or non-surgical techniques. Botox for jawline, with its shorter recovery period and less downtime, makes an ideal option for jawline enhancement. Only a few units of Botox are injected on each side of your face and everything is finished in less than 5 minutes. It will weaken the masseter, which is the major muscle you use for chewing and closing your jaws. Botox injection to the masseter can also help alleviate night grinding. If you want to make your jaw slimmer or seek a softer more feminine facial contour, you should consider jawline Botox.

Gummy Smile Botox

A gummy smile is when the lip rests high on the gums and more than 3 millimeters (mm) of the gums are exposed when smiling. If you’re self-conscious about your smile, Botox treatment can do wonders to make your smile more attractive and give your self-confidence a boost. The best part about Botox for gummy smile is that it’s a minimally invasive and quick procedure. Botox injection causes the upper lip to relax so it won’t contract or elevate as much when you smile. The effect usually lasts for 3 months, and repeating the procedure over time can lengthen the effect which means more time between Botox gummy smile treatment is required.

Nefertiti Lift

Are the muscles on your neck pulling down your face and preventing you from having a well-defined jawline? Another common area for Botox injections is the neck. The Nefertiti lift, named after the Egyptian queen Nefertiti who is recognized as an epitome of beauty, is a non-surgical procedure that targets the neck and jawline using Botox to achieve a well-contoured jawline. It’s also indicated to improve the saggy appearance of prominent neck muscles known as the platysma. If you’re at least 18 years old, not pregnant or nursing, and don’t have known allergies to Botox, you are an ideal candidate for the Nefertiti neck lift.

Crow’s Feet

Botox has become the treatment of choice for wrinkles occurring in the upper one-third of the face (i.e., frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet). It is also used in the lower two-thirds of the face. Botox around the eyes is used to soften the appearance of crow’s feet and the so-called “11” lines between the eyebrows. It can also be used to correct eyelids or eyebrows that are asymmetric. Since it’s a more technically challenging and advanced procedure, it should only be performed by a certified practitioner. The FDA approved the use of Botox for treating crow’s feet in 2013. Continue reading for more common areas for Botox injections.

Under Eye

Botox is administered to reduce the appearance of wrinkles in the upper areas of the face, elevate the eyebrows. Under eye Botox injection is off-label, which means it’s not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). There are only a few scientific studies about Botox for under eye wrinkles. One of these is a 2003 study in which the participants received Botox injections under and around the eyes. Those who were injected in the lower eyelids and crow’s feet area were more likely to have positive results compared to those who had injections in their lower eyelids only.

Smile Lines

Laughing and smiling cause lines to develop around the mouth. Other factors that can cause smile lines include loss of elasticity, genetics, smoking, and sun damage. Botox for smile lines freezes and relaxes the muscles surrounding the mouth. This gives the wrinkles a smooth appearance. Botox on smile lines typically lasts for about 3-6 months.

Glabellar Lines

Glabellar lines aslo known as wrinkle in between eyes are the same as frown lines. These are the vertical folds or creases between your eyebrows. In 2002, Botox was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for cosmetic use in the treatment of glabellar complex muscles that are responsible for the frown lines and horizontal lines in the forehead. Botox for frown lines smooths the muscles between the eyes that tend to create “11 lines” when you’re frowning or concentrating. The Botox forehead lift smooths out forehead lines and helps prevent new creases from forming.

All about BOTOX

BOTOX is a popular cosmetic injection used to treat and prevent wrinkles caused by smiling, frowning, and other repetitious expressions. BOTOX helps stop the formation of wrinkles to give you a younger-looking appearance. It is a popular treatment option for frown lines, Crow’s feet, and horizontal forehead lines.

XEOMIN (incobotulinumtoxinA), is a cosmetic injection for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines. The formula is developed from a bacteria known as IncobotulinumtoxinA.

Upon injection, the solution blocks nerve activity in the facial muscles that cause frown lines. It works by causing a reduction in nerve activity within the muscles, which helps to smooth the skin and prevent new wrinkles from forming.

Risks of BOTOX

With all cosmetic injections, such as BOTOX, there is always some risk of mild bruising or bleeding at the injection site, which quickly clears up in a day or two. If you should notice bruising, apply a cool compress to the area.

On rare occasions, some patients could suffer a minor allergic reaction to cosmetic injections, which can cause swelling at the injection site, itching, or shortness of breath.

Prior to undergoing cosmetic injections, you should discuss your health history, questions, and concerns with Annamarie Salyer FNP-C at Bion Aesthetics and Med Spa in Indianapolis, IN.
