While neurotransmitters help send messages through the body, neuromodulators, sometimes referred to as neurotoxins, are drugs that block nerve signals to muscles in the body. Botulinum toxin is an FDA approved neurotoxin that temporarily blocks nerve signals that cause muscle contraction.
