Double chin treatment

Kybella

If you’ve noticed excess skin or fat developing under your chin as you’ve gotten older, you may be dealing with the common issue of a “double chin.” This is often caused by a natural decline in the body’s ability to efficiently process fat as we age. Fortunately, Kybella®, an injectable treatment available at Bion Aesthetics and Med Spa, can help eliminate stubborn chin fat.

What is Kybella?

Kybella® is a simple, non-surgical injectable procedure designed to improve the appearance of submental fullness, commonly referred to as a “double chin.” It is the only FDA-approved treatment that targets and destroys fat cells under the chin. Kybella® contains a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid, a substance the body naturally produces to aid in fat absorption. By destroying these fat cells, the treatment prevents them from storing fat in the future, making the results long-lasting. The treatment involves multiple sessions over several months, but it is a quick procedure with relatively few side effects.

How much does. Kybella cost?

The cost of this treatment can fluctuate significantly based on each patient’s individual needs. The number of injections required often depends on the specific condition of the neck and chin area, with multiple injections commonly needed. Additionally, many patients choose to combine this procedure with another dermal filler treatment, which can further impact the final cost.

How it’s done

Upon arrival, your provider takes “before” photos. They then apply a numbing cream under your chin and a temporary tattoo grid to guide the treatment. Over several minutes, they administer 10-50 injections. The numbing cream helps minimize discomfort. To complete the procedure, your provider wraps your chin in a compression bandage. Some mild soreness may occur, but the medication typically achieves optimal results after 2-4 sessions spaced six weeks apart.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable that eliminates the unwanted fat cells under the chin, reducing submental fullness.

How does Kybella work?

Kybella, when injected into subcutaneous fat, destroys the targeted fat cells. Consequently, the destroyed cells are unable to store or accumulate additional fat.

How is Kybella administered?

At Bion Aesthetics and Med Spa, the practitioner uses a fine, small-gauge needle to administer Kybella.

How many Kybella treatments will I need?

The number of Kybella treatments required can vary significantly between clients. While many clients achieve visible chin contouring in just 2 to 4 treatments, some may need up to 6 treatments to achieve their desired results.

What are the side effects of Kybella?

Potential side effects of Kybella injections include bruising, hair loss, and open sores (ulcers) at the injection site. The treatment can also lead to tissue damage and cell death (necrosis) around the injection area. Additionally, Kybella may cause difficulty swallowing and temporarily impact the nerves in the jaw, resulting in an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness.
