Jeuveau – the “New Tox”
What is Jeuveau?
Jeuveau® belongs to a class of drugs that temporarily block nerve signals to muscles in the body. This differs from dermal fillers, which adds volume where it is lacking.
If you want to improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on your face, you have a new option. Jeuveau® was approved by the FDA in 2019 to treat facial wrinkles, and is the newest addition to the wrinkle-relaxer pantheon of Botox® and Xeomin®.
What is the difference between Jeuveau and Botox?
Jeuveau® and Botox® contain the same ingredient botulinum toxin. However, the botulinum toxins used by Jeuveau® and Botox® are slightly different — Botox® uses onabotulinumtoxinA and Jeuveau® uses prabotulismtoxinA. In large doses botulinum toxin is considered to be one of the most potent neuromodulators.

Jeuveau treatment
Treatment with Jeuveau is performed as an outpatient procedure and involves your nurse practitioner gently injecting the treatment solution into needed injection sites.
To begin, you will take a comfortable seated position. Treatment areas will be numbed prior to administration of the injection in order to ensure maximum comfort. Once you are comfortable and relaxed, your nurse practitioner will gently inject the Jeuveau solution into the skin.
Depending on your treatment needs, the Jeuveau injection will either be injected into the forehead, between the eyes, or other areas. The number of injection sites will vary based on your treatment needs.

After-Care
Immediately after the procedure is complete, you may notice slight bumps at the injection sites. These should go away after 10–15 minutes.
Treatment with Jeuveau is virtually painless and involves no scarring of the skin. Visible results can be seen two to ten days after treatment and can last around five to six months.
In order to maintain results, repeat visits may be needed. After treatment, it is recommended that you do not scratch or apply direct heat to treatment areas.

It’s essential that you notify your practitioner if you’ve received other kinds of injections in the three months prior to your Jeuveau appointment. Avoid using medicines, such as aspirin, ibuprofen and other drugs that thin the blood prior to your treatment. These may increase bleeding and bruising risks. Furthermore, be sure to tell your practitioner if you’re taking any allergy drugs, muscle relaxers or sleep aids.
With topical anesthetic, Jeuveau injections can be virtually painless. Even without a numbing agent, pain is minimal, and you may only feel a little pinch. Injections are very quick and with a trained Bion injector, you may not even notice when they happen.
If you’re unhappy with the way wrinkles or fine lines are affecting your appearance, Jeuveau may be able to help. It’s your choice to determine if Jeuveau is the ideal treatment for you.
